Vitalist Now has a Jott Link
December 4th, 2007 / 15 Comments

A few months ago, we wrote on this blog about how to set up a Jott.com account to send messages to your Vitalist inbox. It worked great but was a bit confusing to set up and get working right. Jott has since released a public API and we saw an opportunity to make the whole process easier.
You can now simply add Vitalist as a Jott Link to your Jott account. No more messing with creating a Vitalist contact and email address. Here is how to get started:
1. Login to your Jott account and click the Jott Links tab. (if you do not have an account, you can sign up free here)
2. Click Add next to the Vitalist logo in the Jott Links list.
3. Click Save or change the name of the link. (the default is Vitalist, if you already have another contact for Vitalist, you will need to change or delete it)
4. Enter your Vitalist login information and click Activate. (this is only required once)
Now you are ready to Jott to Vitalist.
When asked “Who do you want to Jott?” say “Vitalist”, speak your message, and it will be sent to your inbox!

Hi Robert. I love Vitalist; thanks for all your work on it. You talk above about linking to Jott but you don’t say what the benefits of doing so might be. Not being familiar with Jott, can you enumerate?
Nevermind; I see your previous post. Thanks. While I’m here I might mention that the only downside that I see with your site is the lack of good notes. I know you have the balloon notes and they work OK, but why not display the same text in the “add note” field when opening an action in the actions section. Users could get a good view of the note and edit it from there. I don’t believe we can edit the baloon notes.
Just one small suggestion; overall the site is great.
Nice! I saw the API the other day and was hoping something like this would come along. I’m loving JOTT + Vitalist. I think of something, call Jott, brain dump my idea, and my brain is uncluttered and my next action is waiting in my inbox.
Thanks!
Hey Chuck — noticed your remark about the balloon notes: double-clicking or using the shortcut “r” = Quick Edit Selected Action; using the shortcut “e” = Detailed Edit Selected Action. In Detailed Edit you can view/add to your balloon notes. (You can find more shortcuts in Settings/Keyboard Shortcuts/Learn More). Hope this helps!
Is there any specific syntax used for the Jott Link? I’d love to be able to put my Jotts directly into the correct project and have a due date assigned to them.
I just wanted to post my quick Kudos. Vitalist has worked much better for me than any other GTD application. My life changed the weekend I migrated all my data from Backpack (where it was a mess) to Vitalist. My only limitation was that I sometimes had to wait to return to the keyboard to add to my inbox, and now that I have Jott/Vitalist support, that limitation is gone! Thanks again for a great service.
That’s great Robert! If you remember I requested the Jott link from my friends at Jott back in September - it’s finally ready!
One question: Will there be any features added regarding auto-parsing of Jotts/email entries? Something like, “Start new account preparations next Friday, context: @Accounting, project: Project X”, and have that show up in the designated project with the context and Due Date added?
That will truly complete the Jott Link feature!
Thanks!
Jim
Im so jealous! Signed up to Jott. Only to find international users are not supported. Those are the breaks.
… Same problem, Karl! Working from Cape Town in South Africa, where the telcoms monopoly make things ridiculously expensive. Cannot anyone out out there crack this problem? Pse give a hand to all those of us - all over the world! - being ripped off by government telcoms outfits! :-((
I still am confused. What is Jott used for?
Jott is a transcription service that can be used to send messages and emails. You leave a voice message on Jott and they transcribe it to text.
With the Jott Link and Vitalist, you can have the message you gave to Jott over the phone sent into your Vitalist inbox as an action.
Very useful for situations where you do not have access to a computer or the internet.
This is awesome! I had been using a dictaphone for something like this, just recording little voice messages to myself for later transcription/addition to my to-do lists, but now I can just call Jott and within minutes my message has been transcribed into my inbox.
Incredible! Thank you.
This is one of my all-time favorite links. Thanks a bunch.
I found Vitalist via Jott.. I love Jott but have been going through different ToDo List providers.. all have cool pros and cons.. right now vitalist is winning but Nozbe allows Jott to control which project the phone call lands.
The Jott link is awesome. I use it with Vitalist to add items to my inbox, and with Google Calendar to scedule apointments .. I rarely use my PC anymore to add items … keep up the great work!!
